TWG Tea Salon & Boutique @Emporium

Give a warm hug to the newest tea salon of Bangkok, TWG.

Originally a famous tea room from Singapore, TWG has high reputation through out the world with numerous selection of tea to enjoy with  fancy dessert.

It was the 2nd day after the opening on the day of our visit. The place was crowded with both local Thai and foreigner. We had to wait for the table for 30mins.

This is the tea list. The selection of  the teas alone was 8 pages long. I assume the variety is about 400kinds of tea.

We ended up selected one of the famous original blended tea, Geisha Blossom.
Green tea with fragrant  of ripe southern fruits. (It smells like Mango and Peach to me.) Refreshing and delightful. A great choice of tea in deed.

We had few dessert to sweeten our afternoon. TWG offer 8 kinds of Macarons. All are different kind of tea flavor.

We selected 3 out of 8. Here are our choices.
Purple macaron;  Grand Wedding Tea shell. Passion Fruit and Coconut filling.
Black macaron;. Napoleon Tea shell. Caramel filling
Brown macaron; Earl grey fortune tea shell. Chocolate Filling.

They manage to bring out the flavor of the tea nicely. Taste like what they claim with the name. Even though the texture of the shell was to moist and soft to my liking.
I wish these were a bit more chewy.

Other than Macarons, We also order 3 desserts.

Mango crumble . The mango sauce with chunky mango pieces on the top is so full flavor that we all said Wow! out loud. I doubt it if the mango crumble being served at main branch in SG is as good. As I am sure Thai Mango is one of the best in the world.

We had another decent dessert from the show case. The name was Singapore Surprise. Pretty much like a  tart filled with crème brulee and raspberry. Burned sugar was aromatic and the crème was rich.

The dessert I found okay, not impressive, was Caramel vanilla bourbon. This caramel glazed vanilla mousse cake was so plain. I wish it is richer and more buttery than this.

The biggest failure of the meal would be scones. Despite their mouth-watering appearance, these scones have smell of raw material. Unbaked dough could be the word. (Even though these are completely cooked thoroughly. I can’t figure the reason neither.)

Scones were accompanied by Tea Jelly and fluffy whipped cream. Whipped cream is a mistake. I prefer clotted cream to my scones. The tea jelly was new and creative yet it tastes too subtle. None of these were able to help improving the taste of scones.

Over all, the meal was  half way impressive. Many dessert were nice creations made by ingredients with slightly better than average quality. And TWG’s tea itself sure lives up to its name. Even though I found some of their treat a lousy one. Anyhow, the place is new. I am looking forward to good improvement.
